Fluvanna County Awarded State Grant to update the commercial kitchen

Fluvanna County has received a $7,374 Agriculture and Forestry Industries Development (AFID) Infrastructure Grant to enhance its shared-use Commercial Kitchen at the Fluvanna Community Center.

Announced during Virginia Agriculture Week, the grant is part of Governor Glenn Youngkin’s statewide initiative to strengthen local food systems through targeted infrastructure investments. The funding will be used to purchase essential commercial equipment, such as a 20-quart mixer, convection oven, and worktables. These upgrades will expand the kitchen’s capacity, improve safety and efficiency, and help local food entrepreneurs scale their businesses. This investment removes key barriers and supports the growth of food-based businesses in Fluvanna.

Since opening in 2022, the kitchen has become a valuable resource for small producers, caterers, and bakers. The improvements are expected to increase rental use by 50%, support at least five new or expanding businesses, and generate over $5,000 in revenue to sustain operations.

The project aligns with Fluvanna’s Economic Development Strategic Plan and is supported by Virginia Cooperative Extension, Venture Central, and the Central Virginia Small Business Development Center.
