Excitement is building across Fluvanna County as a beloved local landmark prepares to reopen. After a year of dedicated work, the Drive-In at Fork Union is set to welcome moviegoers back beginning April 10, 2026.
Originally opened in 1953, the Drive-In was once a lively gathering place where families and friends came together for evenings under the stars. Although it closed about 15 years ago, many residents never forgot the memories made there. Now, thanks to the vision of a local family taking on the job of opening and running the day-to-day operation, along with generous donations and sponsorships from the community, this cherished piece of Fluvanna’s history is coming back to life.
The restored venue will accommodate more than 200 cars, nearly 1,000 guests, offering plenty of space for date nights, family outings, and group gatherings. While the Drive-In honors its nostalgic roots, significant updates are bringing the experience into a new era.
Improvements include a brand-new screen, renovations to the projector room, expanded restrooms, and upgraded concession facilities designed for greater efficiency. The entrance will also be widened to create safer and smoother traffic flow. Guests will even be able to order concessions online directly from their cars, with staff delivering food right to their window, combining classic drive-in charm with modern convenience.
Beyond providing entertainment, the Drive-In represents something even greater for Fluvanna County. It offers residents a local destination for a night out, attracts visitors from surrounding communities, and brings renewed energy to Fork Union itself. As spring approaches, anticipation continues to grow for the return of this iconic community gathering place.
